Listen Up! Helpful Singing Tips Just for the Guys

Listen Up! Helpful Singing Tips Just for the Guys Sign up successful Its important not to force notes that you dont really have. You cant turn someone into something theyre not again, use the colors in your singing voice as a clue. Even if your range is relatively limited, a brighter, lighter sound implies that with training, youre likely to have a higher vocal range. Additional Singing Tips For Guys Know your voice not just your range, but how your voice works when youre not feeling your best. Avoid singing when youre sick if you can, but since we are our instruments, we all have days when were not 100%, but still have to produce the goods. Know what you can and cant do comfortably on these days. Avoid anything that will damage your voice this means smoking, some prescription medications (talk to your doctor), excessive alcohol consumption, and throat clearing. If this is a habit for you, break it as soon as you can. Get plenty of rest not just for your voice, but for your body too. Exercise again, not just scales and vocal exercises, but find a physical activity you enjoy, and stick to it. Singers and Singing Styles No discussion of singing tips for guys would be complete without considering artists who have taken their art form to a world-class level. Lets consider probably two of the most distinctive male voices of the last century the great Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, and Freddie Mercury, the charismatic frontman of British rock supergroup Queen. Even though their musical genres couldnt be further apart, they have more vocal similarities than they do differences. They both have extraordinary vocal  facility and freedom. Pavarottis golden, bright, rich-toned vocal style incorporated the Italian sob a technique particularly used in verismo (realistic) operas. Mercurys extraordinary vocal agility, attention to words, and stunning musicianship made an impression on many. As you improve your skills, keep these singing tips in mind and always keep your particular vocal style in mind. You’ll begin to notice what works and what doesn’t for your range, and capitalizing on that will make you an even better singer! Photo by Unsplash Interested in Private Lessons? Derivative Symbol

Derivative Symbol Derivative symbol is the notation for differentiation. The process of finding the derivative is called the differentiation. Derivative is a value based on some other asset. Derivative is a value that is derived from something else. Derivative based on different types of assets such as stock market, commodity, banks etc. For common function y = f(x) the derivative can be written as dy / dx. It is also denoted by f. the three notation of derivative are f, f and f. The main use of derivative is to minimize the risk while offering potential for high return to another. Example 1: Find the derivative of 2 sin (2 x) Solution: Derivative of 2 sin (2x) is written as d (2 sin (2x)) / dx Differentiate d (2 sin (2x)) / dx = 2 d (2 sin (2x)) / dx (by constant multiplication rule) = 2. 2 sin (2 x) = 4 cos (2 x) since 2*2 =4 and derivative of sin is cos. Example 2: Find the derivative of (x+1) / (x-2) Solution: Use the quotient rule for finding the derivative Quotient rule is (d/dx) (u/v) = v (d u/dx) u (d v/dx) / v2 (d/dx)(x+1) / (x-2), here u = (x+1) and v = (x-2) (d/dx)(x+1) / (x-2) = ((x-2) d(x+1)/dx (x+1) d(x-2)/dx) / (x-2)^2 = ((x-2) (1) (x+1) (1))/ (x-2)^2 ( use multiply rule of derivative) = x-2-x-1 / (x-2)^2 = -3 / (x-2)^2 Thus the derivative of (x+1) / (x-2) is -3 / (x-2)^2 The above example shows how to find the derivative of function using basic rules of derivative.

Top 10 Tips For College Campus Visits

Top 10 Tips For College Campus Visits The following piece was written by Rachel Korn. Rachel has been featured in our Admissions Expert series and is a former University of Pennsylvaniaadmissions officer, as well as the founder of her own admissions consulting firm. In your search for your right college, there is no better single piece of data to collect than how you feel with your feet on a campus. Heres how to maximize your visits:1. Research beforehand. Visit school websites to get information about their scheduled visitor activities and plan ahead. If you have to pre-register for a tour, an information session or an interview, do that well in advance, especially if you will be visiting at a busy time - during high school breaks and in the summers. Investigate how to visit more than one school in a day, too (many people do). If you will be in a city like Boston, for example, with 60 colleges and universities in and around it, you could definitely visit 2 schools in one day with the right planning. 2. Dress the part. You are interacting with the admissions office. While you do not have to dress up and you should definitely wear comfortable shoes for walking, you should wear clothes you would wear to school nothing too revealing. Your wardrobe is noticed. Dont make admissions officers uncomfortable talking to you.3. Take advantage of everything official offered. Attend information sessions; take campus tours; visit classes; lunch with students. All these activities are critical to build a well-rounded understanding of a school. The information session, with an admissions officer, will give you the facts and talk about the schools particular admissions process, and the tour and other interactions with students will give you the feel of the school. You get both the intellectual and the emotional experience.4. Ask questions. This is a unique chance to learn take advantage of it. Since no one knows you and since the admissions staff and student volunteers have probably heard it al l, there is a 99% chance that you cannot embarrass yourself. At the very least, collect student and staff e-mail addresses for questions later. If you are shy and prefer just to listen on tour, you can always pull the tour guide aside afterwards to ask. Same goes for the information session. If you have questions for the admissions officer but prefer not to speak during the presentation, you can ask the staff member afterwards or return to the admissions office later to speak one-on-one.5. Try to meet your admissions officer. You may have the chance to meet the person potentially reading your application and the applications from your area. It would not hurt to make a connection and show your seriousness if you have questions specifically for that person. Caution: if you have nothing intelligent to ask, though, it may be unwise to have the admissions officer called from his/her office to meet you. Make a positive impression with thoughtful questions.6. Check our facilities you hope to use. Think about your goals. Do you want to major in a science? Try to visit a lab. Are you interested in the performing arts? Drop by theater spaces.7. Go off the beaten path. Once the official offerings are over, dont leave yet. Stop random students to ask questions. Collect more opinions than just those of the tour guides who generally love their schools. This is especially important if you did not like a particular tour guide - try to understand if the person is representative of the school or if actually, there are many other kinds of people there like you. You can go to a student union or a major walkway and stop students. If doing this with your parents would feel embarrassing, try to send your parents to a caf on campus for an hour and venture on your own. They can do their research, you can do yours.8. Take notes. If you will visit several schools, jot down your impressions on each visit to differentiate the schools later. Libraries, dorms, cafeterias and sports complexe s will become frighteningly similar by the end.9. Keep an open mind. It may be that the specific dorm you see is not your taste or perhaps the tour guide is a bit strange or it is just a rainy, miserable day and you (and the college students) want to just hide inside. Perhaps you are there during the colleges break and it is a bit empty. Remember to take what you see in a bigger context and try not to let things like these unfairly color your feelings about a school. Believe it or not, these small things strongly influence your impression, so try to separate a bad day from a bad fit campus.10. Enjoy! Have a great time seeing what college life is like and have fun learning what makes each school unique. Remember: Schools admit a great number of students who cannot visit prior to applying due to their finances or their distances from the campuses. It is not held against you if you cannot visit due to these reasons (admissions officers realize that) - you can prove in your application how much you are interested, and admissions should happily admit you if you fit their criteria. The visit is a chance for you to learn more than it is a chance to influence your application. There is a fairness to the system. Visit RachelsAdmissions Consultingsite. How to Make Composing Fun for Singers and Pianists

How to Make Composing Fun for Singers and Pianists Suzy S. Want to learn how to compose a song, but not sure where to start? Here, Saint Augustine, FL teacher Heather L.  shares her strategy for teaching the process and making it fun at the same time! Read on to learn more Teaching my voice and piano students how to compose a song is a huge part of my curriculum. It is multi-functional, in that it works to hone students sightsinging, musicianship, creativity, and theory knowledge in practice. And with most students out of school for the summer, its a great time to do something out-of-the-box, like composing! One of the easiest ways to get even the youngest students to write and then sightread their own music is a simple game. First, on a sheet of staff paper, I draw a five-note scale in a tessitura where the singers comfortable. If the student is a pianist, Ill choose a position where theyre comfortable. I prefer the simplicity of C major for beginners, but I might use an entire scale for more advanced students. Below it or beside it, I draw a series of notes. For instance, for my six-year-old voice student, Ella, I drew a quarter note, then a half note, then a dotted half, then a whole note. Depending on the students theory level, I sometimes write the number of beats beside each kind of note. Now, the fun begins. Ill ask the student to choose a note from the scale thats been custom tailored, so to speak, just for his theory level. Then Ill ask him to choose what kind of note well use. So my voice student, Ella, asks, May I please have an F and a half note? I write a half note on F. Ella then asks, May I please have a G and a dotted half note? I reply, No, Ella. Its in 4/4 time. Only four beats fit into this measure. With a dotted half added to a half, thatd be five beats. Thats too many. Okay, Ella says, Ill take a quarter note on C and a quarter note on D. Many of the best piano curriculum books feature a few exercises in which you must write a few measures of melody, but this game extends it and makes it accessible either for voice students who dont have those books or for piano students who may not be quite ready for the exercise of simply coming up with something. Eventually, of course, you will slowly grow to take charge of this game and be able to compose a song more freely and independently. As that time comes along, Ill begin to allow more freedom with only some constraints. For instance, if youre an intermediate student, I would ask you to write your own eight measure piece, but Ill give you the time signature, the key signature, and perhaps the left hand chord progression. Making it even more fun could mean writing some lyrics first and trying to write the melody to match. When I was growing up, it was always the running joke that singers were the dumbest of the musicians when it comes to theory and composition. Often, pianists werent regarded much more highly. But perhaps, thats because they were never given the encouragement needed even to try. Heather L. teaches singing, piano, acting, and more in Saint Augustine, FL, as well as through online lessons. Tourism is an important contributor to the Moroccan economy. In 2017, 532,000 people worked in the tourism sector. Similarly, the transport sector is recruiting.  To get travellers around the country, transport companies have also developed. So how can you get around Marrakech, one of Morocco’s most popular cities? From the airport to the souks in the city centre via the Palmeraie, there are plenty of ways to get around the city. But to get from A to B, taxis are the most recommended type of transport. From the new town to the Atlas Mountains, taxis provide a valuable service. Taxis in Marrakech are so affordable that you can use them to travel all over the city. (Source: hichamaarkoubi)Unlike taxis in the UK, the taxis in Marrakech are cheap. You can get around town for just a couple of quid. But before you get in a taxi, make sure they have a meter and that it’s running when your journey begins. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll get a fair price. Similarly, make sure you ask how much it’ll cost for the journey and nicely ask the driver to start the meter. There are two types of taxis in Marrakech. There are small or big taxis. The small taxis are beige. Generally, a driver can accept two or three passengers. Any more than that and you’ll need to look for a bigger cab. A typical trip will cost between 10 and 20 Dirhams (around £1 or £2) but the minimum price will never be less than 6 Dirhams. You also need to know that the cost of the trip is increased by around £1 in the evenings. These small taxis are a practical way of getting around Marrakech. To get out of the city and visit the Majorelle Gardens or the Palmeraie, you’ll need to opt for bigger taxis.  You can often find these bigger taxis waiting for passengers at the airport or outside hotels and they’re looking to pick up tourists. They don’t have a meter so you’ll need to negotiate your price before getting in. Similarly, the drivers are immediately going to have an idea of your budget based on whether you give them directions to luxury hotels, boutique hotels, hostels, or a guesthouse so you might want to check rates and the lowest prices to get into the city before telling them exactly which hotel in Marrakech you want to go to.Before you know it, you can be enjoying mint tea and some Moroccan cuisine on a roof terrace with a view of a beautiful minaret but keep in mind that you can’t expect the same rates as with the small taxis. However, the bigger taxis can take you outside of the city to places like the Agafay Desert and the Ouzoud Falls or a nother city like Essaouira, for example. Since these taxis can take up to six people, they’re good for taking larger groups out of the city.  For example, a trip from the airport to the city centre will cost around £10. If the driver suggests more, refuse and try to negotiate. If you have any problems with a taxi driver while in Marrakech, you can always get in touch with the Tourist Police and in some cases, the mere mention of them will sort out any conflicts.Find out more about visiting Marrakech.Buses in MarrakechThe buses in Marrakech aren’t great for tourists since taking the bus is quite complicated. While there are bus stops, they’re not very well indicated and it’s very easy to get lost. This is why most tourists opt for taxis or walking around Medina. Other than the sightseeing bus, we wouldn't recommend getting the bus around Marrakech; you rarely have any idea where they're going. (Source: GregMontani)If you want to take the bus, it’s cheap. There are around 30 different routes and a ticket will cost you around 30p.  Most of the stops can be found near Jemma el-Fna. Lines 1, 3, and 8 go to the bus station and train station. The Ikhlass Card is a good idea for those spending a few days in Marrakech. It costs around £5 and can be topped up with a balance to be used for bus journeys. These trips cost less and paying for individual bus tickets.Just like most other touristy cities, there’s also the bus tour. The freedom of being able to go wherever you want without having to wait for public transport is the biggest advantage.Renting a car from a local company tends to be the cheapest and you can pay between £10 and £25 a day, not including insurance. With insurance, this can add up to around £30 to £40. If you decide to go with an international care rental company, you’ll find the prices are more expensive and you’ll be paying closer to £60 a day for a comfortable car. However, driving in Marrakech is no picnic. You can’t drive in Medina, which is why most tourists walk around the neighbourhood and driving in Morocco isn’t like driving in the UK. If you’re not used to it, you can quickly have problems with scooters nipping all over the place. On the other hand, renting a car could be a great way to visit outside of Marrakech.
